Abstract
The purpose of this study is determined by facial expression and meaningful motor imitation behaviors among toddlers with suspected autism spectrum disorder (ASD), developmental language delay (DLD) and typical development (TD). Seventy-five toddlers between the ages of 16 and 35 months were collected in this study; (1) Suspected ASD toddlers who were screened positive on M-CHAT (2) DLD are low risk on M-CHAT and below ?2SD on language screening test (SELSI) (3) A group of TD were matched by their chronological ages with ASD and DLD. Nonverbal imitation were assessed using facial expression and motor imitation tasks. The results were as follows: The suspected ASD group revealed significantly lower total scores, facial expression and motor of imitation tasks than the DLD group and the TD group. The imitation performances were positively correlated to language and vocabulary abilities. Implications on early screening and intervention for toddlers with suspected ASD and DLD were being discussed based on the results.
